The Schröter Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics in Halle, Germany, is looking for motivated Postdoc with experience in the development of a laser-based high-harmonic generation light source for use in static and time-resolved angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). This light source will be combined with our existing hemispherical electron analyzer and VLEED type spin-detector for the investigation of novel structurally chiral materials. These materials are expected to display exotic spin- and orbital-textures that could be the basis for novel technologies and are the focus of the ERC Starting Grant project ChiralTopMat [1-6]. Moreover, chiral quantum materials are also going to be the focus of the “Center for Chiral Electronics” Excellence Initiative collaboration with the University Halle-Wittenberg [7]. Further integration of the HHG source into a momentum microscope with a highly efficient spin-filter mirror are also planned.

Your Mission:
- Lead the development of an innovative high-harmonic generation light source tailored for unrivaled energy, spatial, and spin resolution.
- Drive forward the design and implementation of a state-of-the-art laser Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) beamline.
- Collaborate closely with a dynamic ERC team to advance the frontiers of chiral topological semimetals research.
- Contribute your expertise to optimize experimental setups and protocols for maximum precision and reliability.
- Disseminate your findings through publications in scientific journals and presentations at international conferences.
Your Credentials:
- Hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Proven track-record in the development of laser-based high-harmonic generation light source
- Ideally experience with experimental condensed matter physics, particularly in ARPES techniques.
- Possess programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and experimental control.
- Communicate effectively and thrive in a collaborative research environment.

Conditions of employment:
The positions are available immediately, although the start date can be negotiated. The initial contract duration is 36 months for the postdoc position. If your performance is good (which is highly likely if you are selected for the role) then we can extend your contract for at least another 12 months.
