Zhiyong Wang
Zhiyong Wang studied organic electronics at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in China. In October 2017, he joined Prof. Xinliang Feng’s group at Technische Universität Dresden as a PhD student. In his PhD, Zhiyong worked on the design and synthesis of 2D polymers and 2D conjugated metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on novel on-water surface synthesis strategies. He received his doctoral degree in Chemistry with Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors) in November 2021. Then he came to Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics as a postdoc. Since March 2022 he is a group leader for the 2D polymer and interfacial synthesis group in the Department of Synthetic Materials and Functional Devices.
Main Research Interests
Research in our group is mainly focused on the development of interface-assisted synthesis methodologies, and the exploration of synthetic chemistry for the precision synthesis of novel organic 2D materials (e.g., 2D polymers and 2D MOFs) with tailored physical and chemical properties. Using in situ techniques, such as in situ grazing-incidence wide (small)-angle X-ray scattering, sum frequency generation spectroscopy and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy, we investigate the interfacial chemistry, 2D polymerization and 2D crystallization processes on the water/liquid surface on the molecular level, which is crucial for improving predictive synthesis and guiding the rational synthetic strategy. We also aim to explore the applications of organic 2D materials in multifunctional electronic and optoelectronic devices, van der Waals heterostructures, and membranes for osmotic power generator and artificial skin in batteries.
